COVID19 Experiences by Faculty and Students

Challenges:: Overcame with extra Benefits

As the COVID-19 pandemic has swept the nation, our internship is confronted with a monumental challenge. We were supposed to do our internship at hospitals and gain more of practical experience but now we have no other option rather than virtual learning. But SVCP has never disappointed us, our college has opted for innovative ways to get back on track by introducing programmed internship on a day to day basis using a wide range of online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams and providing educational resources like Coursera, webinars and guest lectures as well. Being honest, this virtual learning also seems amazing; I have improved my presentation and communication skills. Though it wasn’t a kind of practical experience I can say I have gained a lot of knowledge in my subject through our online internship program which was designed brilliantly by our professors that helped me to learn and enjoy my internship by creating a stress-free environment. Also, our college has helped us to cope up with this pandemic blues by planning some recreational sessions with the help of Vedic. Besides, we didn’t miss having fun at college events, I enjoyed playing Sudoku online and virtual World Pharmacist Day celebrations as well.

EXCEPTIONALLY VISHNU

In honour of celebrating 8 months success of our own Shri Vishnu college of pharmacy in this hardship, I wanted to make a post to show my gratitude towards my college. Expressing my views towards my college this year Is very different from all past year’s experiences. Having the courage to step out of our normal patterns and start building a new lifestyle may lead to a ton of fear.

But when It comes to me, deep Inside

  • I only know that my faculty never judged me and will always support me and guide me In improving my skills.
  • I only know that I will receive all the support from my friends to achieve success.

Often times, If someone Isn’t supporting you, It will be like, something Is lacking In our life. But for me, I have the faculty who says, we are proud of your work and friends who always lend their hand In supporting me.

PROS OF VIRTUAL CLASSES :

  1. Stay at home and be comfortable In your own space
  2. Not stepping back from learning
  3. Enough time to Improve  other skills than academics

CONS OF VIRTUAL CLASSES :

  1. We definitely miss the physical presence of our friends

I want to thank my faculty and management for providing the best like always. After all this pandemic, I wish I could say, I will never close my mouth again and you will see me just smiling with these straight teeth all day long.

Our college in this pandemic

The petrifying and extreme impact of COVID-19 has shaken the world to its core. Additionally, the governments across the globe have quickly closed the academic establishments from school-going kids to postgraduate college students making an attempt to comprise the unfold of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic triggered a new way of learning. Our college, Shri Vishnu College of Pharmacy has come up with e-learning programs to ensure they complete the academic year and also to start the following academic year. Our teachers introduced us to different apps to make this learning attractive and at the same time to test our understandings through quizzes. The classes were never stressful for us as they lasted only in the mornings. Our college has offered us Coursera courses for free, which usually cost high. Almost every student got benefited from this. The staff has encouraged us to participate in various national events that were organized. Apart from education, we all were involved in the fitness challenge, through which we gave everyone a message to perform physical activity daily, which must be a new normal these days.

Recently I have visited my college to write my final exams. In this situation, where parents are not ready to expose their families to the risk of COVID infection, our college has taken all the possible measures it can, to keep us safe. From sanitization to the food we eat, the management was very particular. Near the entrance, they arranged a sanitation booth, for making sure that every person entering the campus is sanitized and checked for temperature raise. The hostel management has given each of us, plates and glasses to prevent any spread of the infection. The hostel rooms were shared by only two members. The favorite part of mine, they supplied tea and biscuits at night for the students who were awake and preparing for the exams. The wardens were so strict, they never allowed us to step out of the hostel without a mask. And at the examination hall, every day they checked our temperature, and we can only step into the college after sanitation. They made us maintain social distancing by placing each other very far in the examination hall, which was a sad part for the students. The management sanitized the rooms daily. We happily and safely completed our exams and now we are almost halfway to the one-half syllabus of our next academic year.

We all are very happy and grateful for our College, as it helped us in these tough times to complete this year SAFELY.

Challenges won by my college during this Pandemic

I am no pro when it comes to school but now, as a final year student of SVCP I can definitely say that I’ve discovered many things thus far in my college experience. I have always heard that it is a learning experience and I think more often than not the learning deals with stuff you aren’t necessarily talking about in class, it’s actually beyond the classroom learning, precisely “LIFE LESSONS”

This novel coronavirus taught us many lessons, actually, it reminds us to ‘rediscover’ ourselves to be better human’BEING’. Like everyone else, I too experienced many acrid things. Our visit to the US for the ‘Student Exchange Program’ in the month of September 2020 becomes a conundrum. As Pharm. D students we made many plans since our first year regarding our final year internship to be successful, but by the time we start our internship (June 2020) is the same time the virus is piercing all our lives.

So, obviously, we all lost our hope, but our college didn’t. Then our Director sir, Principal sir, and the staff came up with the creative idea of starting VIRTUAL-Internship. The times at which every other college fails to support their students, our college didn’t leave us, our Virtual internship was successfully running now with innovative activities like Journal club, Video-reflection, Case- discussions, Case Presentations, etc. Finally, yes ‘we made it successful’ with our college support. All these things keep our college a step ahead every time and stand unique.

I completed many Coursera courses online for free, only because of the guidance and support from our college. We do attended numerous international webinars during this lockdown period, not only that we also provided with knowledge about carrier opportunities.

When I went to my college after 7 months of lockdown, to attend my exam, I was amazed to see the precautions that were being implemented, sanitization was done at every place, they used to follow most of them even before the pandemic.

The community my college has given me has been incredible in my personal, cultural, and academic growth. This becomes a springboard into the next years of my life and words are powerless to express my gratitude!

SVCP gained Trust

Hello everyone! Myself, Dr. Santhosh B Kumar, Assistant professor from the Department of Pharmacy Practice, SVCP.  Amidst the pandemic,  SVCP has gained the trust of hundreds of students and their parents through its incredible work. It probed the significance of on-line classes much earlier than any other college and grappled enough amount of time that everyone had and utilized it efficiently for the welfare of students by conducting on-line classes and also maintaining a strict Attendance record ( online). . The way the technical team and all other staff members envisaged the importance of future learning ( digital learning),  helped many students to accustom with the modification and mold themselves into a better individual by utilizing time for online classes, Coursera, webinars, seminars, cultural activities, and many more.  The way SVCP planned the time table to cover the academic syllabus and conducting of examinations and giving salaries to each and every employee amid the pandemic is really appreciative. Thank you!

Scaling up my teaching and learning in response to COVID-19

COVID-19 has exposed a large digital gap in how to use technology in a pedagogically meaningful way to enhance teaching and learning. I started regularly using the digital tools and resources that I gain from the projects, workshops, and seminars. Nowadays, digital platforms and tools are incomparable. We mainly use Microsoft Teams as a teaching platform, Moodle for group work activities, Mentimeter as a great way to carry out different types of tasks, Socrates app, and Quizizz as it is easy to stay anonymous and answer questions freely without hesitating. We also use some other digital tools for students’ involvement and motivation: Nearpod, Kahoot, Prezi, and a lot more Web 2.0 tools which got introduced by our development center VEDIC. SVCP & VEDIC has greatly influenced my life. It has had a positive impact not only on my professional and personal development but also on my teaching methods and the classroom environment for my students.

During these difficult times, I feel that it is important to remain inspired and motivated. SVCP helped me to educate my students to a high standard, to keep them motivated and engaged and I can also support and encourage my other colleagues by sharing this experience.
